Yemeni government forces are holding their positions in Taiz governorate despite intense Houthi rebel attacks following their capture of the Red Sea coast last month. The government claims to have inflicted heavy losses on the Houthis, with over 400 strikes reported in a single 24-hour period. While a general mobilization has been called, efforts are focused on rebuilding and retraining military forces rather than an immediate counteroffensive. Favorable defensive terrain and increased firepower are credited with halting further Houthi advances in Taiz and Lahj.
