Times of India · world
Claude Monet's monumental painting 'Iris' has achieved a record-breaking sale of 50 million euros ($56 million) at a Paris auction, becoming the most expensive artwork ever sold in France. The large canvas, measuring 1.60 by 1.80 meters, had been hidden from public view for decades within the Schlumberger family's mansion, known only through a black-and-white photograph. Sotheby's had initially estimated its value between 22 and 30 million euros, marking the highest pre-auction estimate for a painting in France.
