Florida Study: 1.3% of Python Tracking Devices Expelled by Gravid Females
Times of India - India · india
A 20-year study in Florida, from 2005 to 2024, tracked 142 Burmese pythons using 305 implanted transmitters. Researchers observed four instances where tracking devices were expelled, a rate of 1.3%. All expulsions occurred in gravid females, meaning those carrying eggs, and involved intramuscularly implanted transmitters. No deaths were linked to the devices, and surgical techniques were deemed effective for monitoring. The expulsions happened between 57 and 111 days post-surgery, before egg-laying.
