Iowa Couple Discovers Rare Ecosystems, Restores Wetlands Attracting Sandhill Cranes
Times of India · environment
An Iowa couple purchased 40 acres of land that appeared to be overrun with invasive plants. Beneath the overgrowth, they discovered remnants of rare native ecosystems, including a sedge meadow and wet meadow. This discovery shifted their focus from clearing vegetation to ecological restoration. Working with conservation specialists and the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, they have restored over 300 acres, including a 70-acre wetland project. The restored habitats now attract wildlife, notably sandhill cranes, highlighting the success of their conservation efforts.
