Madurai GRH Contractual Workers Protest for Fair Wages and Festival Bonus

Around 750 private contractual workers at GRH demonstrated on Monday for increased wages and a festival bonus. The protest, involving sanitation and essential service staff, disrupted hospital operations including cleaning and patient tracking. Workers cited inadequate pay to manage rising living expenses despite their high-risk labour. Police detained the protesters, releasing them later. Hospital authorities are engaged with union representatives and the private contractor to resolve the salary issues and restore normal functioning for patient care.
