Bangladesh Garment Workers Demand Doubled Wages Amidst Rising Inflation
TV9 Hindi · business
Thousands of garment industry workers in Bangladesh have taken to the streets, protesting low wages and rising inflation. The demonstrations, now in their third day, have significantly impacted operations in hundreds of factories across industrial areas like Dhaka, Mirpur, and Ashulia. Workers are demanding their minimum monthly salary be increased from 12,500 Taka (approx. ₹10,000) to 30,000 Taka (approx. ₹24,000). Factory owners cite rising costs and fewer orders, making such a hike difficult. The government has formed a wage board to resolve the dispute.
