Pet Cats Impact Wildlife Despite Small Home Ranges

A study tracking 925 pet cats across six countries revealed they maintain small home ranges, averaging 3.6 hectares, and primarily use disturbed habitats. Despite their limited movement, these cats have a significant local ecological impact, killing an average of 3.5 prey items per month. The research highlights that their hunting is concentrated within about 100 metres of homes, leading to a higher ecological effect in densely populated neighbourhoods.
