Patna HC Rules Caste Certificate With Husband's Name Valid For Quota

Hindustan Times · india

The Patna High Court has ruled that a married woman cannot be denied caste-based reservation solely because her caste certificate lists her husband's name instead of her father's. The court dismissed an appeal by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) against the candidature of an SC woman, Dr. Sushma Sharan. Justices Mohit Kumar Shah and Sourendra Pandey stated that caste is determined by birth and a woman does not lose her caste identity after marriage.
