Foreign Medical Graduates Withdraw Duties Over Stipend Disparity in Telangana

Times of India · education

Hundreds of foreign medical graduates (FMGs) in Telangana have stopped their duties, disrupting outpatient and emergency services in government hospitals. They are protesting a significant disparity between their ₹5,000 monthly stipend and the ₹29,792 received by Indian medical graduates. FMGs demand equal pay and arrears, citing financial hardship and the need to cover living expenses and education loan repayments. While the National Medical Commission acknowledges the need for equal stipends within states, it deems uniform national pay impractical. FMGs have threatened a statewide protest if their demands are not met.
