NYC Marsh Restoration Sees 80% Success Rate
Times of India - India · india
In 2003, 100 volunteers and National Park Service scientists planted 20,000 smooth cordgrass seedlings in New York City's Big Egg Marsh. This restoration effort aimed to revive Jamaica Bay's disappearing salt marshes. Despite initial setbacks from geese, tides, and debris, the vegetation spread effectively. By 2005, just two years later, over 80% of the experimental site was healthy and vegetated, showing significant progress in the restoration project.
