Agra Drain Work Began Without Tree Felling Clearance

Agra Development Authority began constructing a nearly 20-foot-deep drain in Sikandra without Supreme Court permission to fell 203 trees. RTI records show the forest department repeatedly urged ADA to get clearance since 2023. Compensatory plantation of 2,030 trees was identified, with an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh. This follows a trench collapse that killed two labourers and injured another, with an ADA inquiry suggesting safety lapses. ADA acknowledged tree permission is pending.

सिकंदरा में आगरा डेवलपमेंट अथॉरिटी (ADA) ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट की इजाज़त के बिना 203 पेड़ काटने के लिए लगभग 20 फुट गहरा नाला बनाना शुरू कर दिया है। RTI से पता चला है कि वन विभाग 2023 से ADA से मंजूरी लेने को कह रहा था। इसके बदले 2,030 पेड़ लगाने थे, जिसका खर्च करीब 25 लाख रुपये आना था। यह सब तब हुआ जब एक नाले में गड़बड़ी से दो मजदूरों की मौत हो गई थी।
