भारतीय शेयर बाज़ार में भारी गिरावट आई, निफ्टी इंडेक्स 300 अंकों से ज़्यादा गिरकर 22,807 पर आ गया और सेंसेक्स 1000 अंकों से ज़्यादा गिरकर 73,000 से नीचे चला गया। इस गिरावट की मुख्य वजह महाराष्ट्र सरकार द्वारा 358 में से 265 तहसीलों को सूखा प्रभावित घोषित करना है, जिससे राज्य के लगभग 74% हिस्से पर असर पड़ा है। यह सूखा घोषणा मानसून के दौरान 21 दिनों से ज़्यादा बारिश न होने के बाद हुई है, जिसके कारण खरीफ फसलों को भारी नुकसान हुआ है। यह स्थिति वैश्विक भू-राजनीतिक तनाव और कच्चे तेल की बढ़ती कीमतों के बीच निवेशकों की मौजूदा चिंताओं को और बढ़ा रही है।
