Tibet Earthquake: CTA Urges China for Transparent Relief Operations
Times of India · world
The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) has expressed deep sorrow over the 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Tibet, urging the Chinese government to ensure transparent relief operations and unrestricted humanitarian access. While official figures report 16 deaths and 76 injured, preliminary local reports suggest at least 20 fatalities. The CTA is concerned about restrictions on Tibetan volunteers and the safety of homes built under resettlement programs, especially with winter approaching. They called for intensified search-and-rescue, medical care, and essential supplies, along with accurate information dissemination and respect for Tibetan Buddhist funeral customs.
