Microsoft Pulls Out of UK's Largest AI Data Centre Project Due To Power Concerns
Times of India · business
Microsoft has reportedly withdrawn from a major project to build the UK's largest AI data centre in Loughton, Essex, citing significant regional power supply limitations. The infrastructure firm Nscale, responsible for the £2 billion facility planned for 2025, stated that it remains committed to the project and is seeking alternative power solutions. UK Power Networks informed Nscale that sufficient electricity would not be available until the mid-2030s, a delay too long for Microsoft's supercomputing needs. Nscale is now exploring on-site electricity generation to bypass grid issues.
