Tree Snakes Master Camouflage and Ambush Tactics to Hunt Prey

TOI - Lifestyle · lifestyle

Arboreal snakes have evolved remarkable camouflage, using colours like green, brown, and grey to blend seamlessly with leaves and bark. Their slender bodies and ability to remain motionless for days aid in ambushing unsuspecting prey like birds, lizards, and frogs. Many species possess prehensile tails for balance, allowing them to stretch across thin branches. This crypsis makes them nearly invisible, even to sharp-eyed predators. While most are shy, some venomous species may bite if surprised, highlighting the need for caution when near dense foliage.
