They were caught accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000, which was part of a Rs 1 lakh demand to renew and modify a commercial bus permit. The arrests followed a complaint by a bus operator who alleged procedural delays and syndicate-driven corruption in permit clearances. The ACB is now investigating if this points to a larger, systematic permit racket operating from the office.

बंगाल भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक शाखा (ACB) ने शुक्रवार को बेल्ताला परिवहन कार्यालय के एक क्षेत्रीय परिवहन अधिकारी (RTO) और एक कथित बिचौलिये को गिरफ्तार किया। उन्हें 90,000 रुपये की रिश्वत स्वीकार करते हुए पकड़ा गया, जो एक वाणिज्यिक बस परमिट के नवीनीकरण और संशोधन के लिए 1 लाख रुपये की मांग का हिस्सा था। यह गिरफ्तारी एक बस ऑपरेटर की शिकायत के बाद हुई, जिसने परमिट मंजूरी में प्रक्रियात्मक देरी और सिंडिकेट-संचालित भ्रष्टाचार का आरोप लगाया था। ACB अब जांच कर रही है कि क्या यह कार्यालय से संचालित होने वाले एक बड़े, व्यवस्थित परमिट रैकेट की ओर इशारा करता है।
