Tourist Dies Near Sandakphu Due to Lack of Medical Aid, Highlighting Facility Gaps

A 27-year-old tourist from Cooch Behar, Priotosh Adhikari, died on Wednesday near Sandakphu after experiencing breathing difficulties and a severe drop in oxygen saturation. His friends attempted to provide aid and sought help from the SSB, but were informed of no medical personnel available. The incident has underscored the critical lack of immediate medical facilities in the Sandakphu-Ahal region. While a health facility is planned, the nearest existing one is 37km away, a journey of nearly four hours. Authorities noted that oxygen cylinder supplies had also been exhausted.

कूचबिहार के 27 वर्षीय पर्यटक प्रियतोष अधिकारी की बुधवार को संदकफू के पास सांस लेने में तकलीफ और ऑक्सीजन लेवल में भारी गिरावट के बाद मौत हो गई। उनके दोस्तों ने मदद की कोशिश की और SSB से संपर्क किया, लेकिन उन्हें बताया गया कि कोई मेडिकल स्टाफ उपलब्ध नहीं है। इस घटना ने संदकफू-अहल क्षेत्र में तत्काल चिकित्सा सुविधाओं की गंभीर कमी को उजागर किया है। हालांकि एक स्वास्थ्य सुविधा की योजना है, लेकिन सबसे नज़दीकी मौजूदा सुविधा 37 किमी दूर है, जो लगभग चार घंटे की यात्रा है। अधिकारियों ने बताया कि ऑक्सीजन सिलेंडर की आपूर्ति भी खत्म हो गई थी।
