New research published in Nature Communications indicates that fatty liver disease is not confined to the liver alone and can impact various other organs. Scientists analyzed genetic and medical data from over 4,600 patients, finding that causes and consequences of fatty liver vary significantly. Genetic factors led to a higher need for liver transplants, while obesity-related fatty liver increased risks of fibrosis and sudden kidney failure. Some patients also faced a heightened risk of heart attack, highlighting that the disease's impact is not uniform across all individuals.
