Aaj Tak · spirituality
Dhanteras, marking the start of the five-day Diwali festival, is also known as Dhantrayodashi. The name originates from the Hindu lunar calendar, specifically the thirteenth day (Trayodashi) of the Kartik month's waning phase. This day is dedicated to worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera for wealth. Additionally, it honours Lord Dhanvantari, the deity of health and Ayurveda, who emerged from the cosmic ocean with an elixir. People traditionally buy gold, silver, utensils, and brooms, symbolising prosperity and well-being for the family.
