The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has awarded ₹1.80 crore in compensation to the heirs of a couple who died in a 2018 accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The couple's car hit a truck from the rear, and both occupants later died. The tribunal found the car driver 70% contributorily negligent and the truck driver 30% liable. Despite the truck's permit being valid only for Rajasthan and Gujarat, the insurance firm must first pay the compensation and then recover the amount from the truck owner.
