China has strongly criticised the US government's decision to ban the Chinese AI model DeepSeek from federal IT systems. Beijing stated the move goes against an "important consensus" reached between President Xi Jinping and former President Donald Trump. China's commerce ministry argued the ban harms Chinese firms' interests and disrupts normal commercial cooperation, urging the US to immediately correct its "discriminatory restrictions." The US Department of Homeland Security cited security risks and potential exposure of sensitive data to China as reasons for the prohibition, warning of multiple threat vectors.
