Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched the 'Thaaimaman Thanga Mothiram' scheme in Madurai, distributing 22-carat gold rings to newborns. This welfare initiative aims to honor motherhood and encourage institutional deliveries, with the state allocating ₹755.83 crore annually. The scheme, an electoral promise, will benefit children born in government hospitals, to mothers who are state residents. However, the BJP criticized the scheme, citing a purported milk shortage in the state and arguing that children need milk more than gold.
