Tamil Nadu Govt. Relaxes Domicile Rules for Gold Ring Scheme
The Hindu · india
The Tamil Nadu government has relaxed eligibility criteria for its gold ring scheme, now including children whose mothers were born in the state but moved elsewhere after marriage, provided parents reside permanently in Tamil Nadu. The Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam, which provides a one-gram gold ring to newborns in government hospitals, was launched on September 28 and is effective retrospectively from June 22, 2026. This amendment addresses cases where women return to their parental homes in Tamil Nadu for childbirth.
