E-commerce giants fined for selling unregistered herbicide

CCPA has fined Amazon and Flipkart Rs 10 lakh each, and JioMart Rs 5 lakh, for selling and advertising an unregistered agrochemical product called Cyclosinone Herbicide. The product, marketed for weed prevention, was found to be unregistered under the Insecticides Act, 1968, and its composition was not disclosed. The CCPA rejected the companies' defense that they were not responsible for third-party sellers' listings. The marketplaces were also directed to stop false advertisements and conduct self-audits for compliance.
