ICAR and FCI to trial alternative pest control methods in grain storage

Business Standard · business

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has partnered with the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to test alternative pest control methods for stored grains. These trials aim to replace traditional chemicals like aluminium phosphide and malathion, which have led to significant pest resistance and pose health and environmental risks. The initial phase will involve three major trials using nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and a combination of CO2 and phosphine gas.
