The Allahabad High Court's Lucknow Bench has declared hookah bars operating within restaurants as illegal. The court ruled that no service is permissible inside designated smoking areas following a 2017 amendment to the Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places Rules. Petitioners argued they had created separate smoking zones, but the court rejected this, stating hookah smoking inherently requires commercial service and preparation. Since such services are prohibited, operating hookah bars under the guise of designated smoking areas violates the law, the court concluded, upholding the ban.

इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट की लखनऊ बेंच ने रेस्टोरेंट के अंदर चल रहे हुक्का बार को अवैध करार दिया है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि पब्लिक प्लेसेज पर स्मोकिंग (प्रोहिबिशन) रूल्स 2017 में हुए संशोधन के बाद, स्मोकिंग के लिए तय की गई जगहों के अंदर कोई भी सर्विस देना मना है। याचिकाकर्ताओं ने कहा कि उन्होंने अलग स्मोकिंग जोन बनाए हैं, लेकिन कोर्ट ने इसे खारिज कर दिया। कोर्ट ने कहा कि हुक्का पीने के लिए कमर्शियल सर्विस और तैयारी की ज़रूरत होती है। चूंकि ऐसी सर्विस की मनाही है, इसलिए हुक्का बार चलाना कानून का उल्लंघन है। कोर्ट ने बैन को बरकरार रखा।
