Vallarpadam ICTT Rail Link Sees Increased Cargo Movement and Outward Loading

The rail corridor to Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) in Kochi is experiencing a revival after years of underutilization. Since May, a minimum of two train rakes have been operating monthly. Significantly, outward container loading has commenced, with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd recently dispatching four full rakes of bitumen. Container Corporation of India Ltd has resumed freight services, and discussions are underway to shift car unit movements to Cochin Port. This renewed activity is expected to boost rail cargo prospects and potentially divert traffic from highways.

कोच्चि में वल्लारपाडम इंटरनेशनल कंटेनर ट्रांसशिपमेंट टर्मिनल (आईसीटीटी) तक जाने वाला रेल गलियारा सालों तक कम इस्तेमाल होने के बाद फिर से सक्रिय हो रहा है। मई से हर महीने कम से कम दो ट्रेनें चल रही हैं। खास बात यह है कि बाहर कंटेनर लोडिंग शुरू हो गई है, जिसमें भारत पेट्रोलियम कॉर्पोरेशन लिमिटेड ने हाल ही में बिटुमेन के चार पूरे रेक भेजे हैं। कंटेनर कॉर्पोरेशन ऑफ इंडिया लिमिटेड ने माल ढुलाई सेवाएं फिर से शुरू कर दी हैं, और कोचीन पोर्ट पर कार यूनिट की आवाजाही को स्थानांतरित करने पर चर्चा चल रही है।
