Tomato Prices Plummet 65% in a Week Amidst Surplus Supply
TV9 Hindi · business
Tomato prices have seen a dramatic fall of approximately 65% in just one week, dropping to 111 rupees per 20-kilo crate in major wholesale markets like Pimpalgaon APMC. This sharp decline is attributed to a significant increase in supply, with 3 to 3.75 lakh crates arriving daily, coupled with weak demand. Retail prices in Nashik have halved from 40 rupees to 20 rupees per kilogram. The surplus is due to early ripening caused by high temperatures, and reduced demand from key consuming states like UP and Bihar.
