As many as 100 sub-registrar offices in Tamil Nadu will discontinue working on Saturdays, the Commercial Taxes and Registration department has announced. This decision was noted by State Minister D. Lokesh Tamilselvan during discussions on Demands for grants for 2026-27. The government aims to expand "faceless document registration" services. A Government Order stated that the compulsory Saturday duty system can be discontinued without affecting the services provided by these offices.
