Uttar Pradesh is reportedly considering adopting a UCC, following in the footsteps of states like Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh. Proponents argue that UCC is crucial for strengthening gender justice and constitutional values by ensuring equal rights in marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption. The proposed code aims to guarantee women's rights, prohibit polygamy and triple talaq, and grant daughters equal inheritance rights. It also seeks to regulate live-in relationships and prevent underage marriages, thereby extending the rule of law and ensuring citizen dignity.
