Therapist Warns Toxic Positivity Can Ruin Relationships

HT - Lifestyle · lifestyle

Florida-based therapist Jeffrey Meltzer states that forcing constant positivity can damage relationships. He explains that toxic positivity occurs when individuals are discouraged from expressing negative emotions, leading to isolation and emotional neglect. When people repeatedly receive dismissive responses like 'focus on the positive,' they learn to suppress their true feelings. This prevents genuine connection, as individuals feel they must hide their emotions to maintain relationships with friends, family, or partners.
