An amateur archaeologist discovered 934 ancient Roman silver coins in western Germany, the largest such hoard found from Emperor Hadrian's era. The coins, weighing 3.1 kilograms, date mostly from the Flavian emperors and the oldest from 148 B.C. Experts believe the treasure was buried for safekeeping around the second century A.D. The value is hard to estimate, but a legionary would need six years of savings to amass it.
