Allahabad HC Reserves Verdict On Journalist's Plea Against NSA Detention

The Allahabad High Court has reserved its judgment on a habeas corpus petition filed by journalist Satyam Verma. Verma is challenging his preventive detention under the National Security Act (NSA) following his alleged involvement in a Noida workers' protest in April 2026. His petition argues the detention order was based on a factually impossible premise, citing CCTV footage and call records placing him 500 km away in Lucknow. The plea also contends Verma was not named in any FIRs and that the NSA was used to suppress a labour dispute.

इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट ने पत्रकार सत्यम वर्मा की बंदी प्रत्यक्षीकरण याचिका पर अपना फैसला सुरक्षित रख लिया है। वर्मा अप्रैल 2026 में नोएडा श्रमिकों के विरोध प्रदर्शन में कथित संलिप्तता के बाद राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा अधिनियम (NSA) के तहत अपनी निवारक नज़रबंदी को चुनौती दे रहे हैं। उनकी याचिका में कहा गया है कि नज़रबंदी का आदेश एक तथ्यात्मक रूप से असंभव आधार पर आधारित था, जिसमें सीसीटीवी फुटेज और कॉल रिकॉर्ड का हवाला दिया गया है, जिसमें उन्हें 500 किमी दूर लखनऊ में दिखाया गया है। याचिका में यह भी कहा गया है कि वर्मा का किसी भी एफआईआर में नाम नहीं था और एनएसए का इस्तेमाल श्रम विवाद को दबाने के लिए किया गया था।
