The Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced significant amendments to Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) regulations. These changes alter the voting threshold for approving key decisions, shifting from the value of units held to the total votes cast. A new provision offers an exit option for dissenting unitholders when a sponsor exits, ensuring their investment is protected. Additionally, the regulations now permit depository receipts against REIT units, potentially creating new avenues for investment access.
