Northeast Monsoon Arrives; Tamil Nadu Braces For Heavy Rain Spells

The India Meteorological Department has announced the onset of the northeast monsoon over south peninsular India, with intense rain spells already lashing Chennai's western suburbs. The IMD forecasts varying intensity rain across Tamil Nadu for the next three to four days, with heavy to very heavy rain expected along the Western Ghats on Friday and over Chennai and neighbouring districts on Saturday. An orange alert has been issued for six districts, while a yellow alert covers 20 districts for Friday.

भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (IMD) ने दक्षिण प्रायद्वीपीय भारत में पूर्वोत्तर मानसून की शुरुआत की घोषणा की है। चेन्नई के पश्चिमी उपनगरों में पहले से ही तेज बारिश हो रही है। IMD ने अगले तीन से चार दिनों तक तमिलनाडु में अलग-अलग तीव्रता की बारिश का अनुमान लगाया है। शुक्रवार को पश्चिमी घाटों पर और शनिवार को चेन्नई और आसपास के जिलों में भारी से बहुत भारी बारिश की उम्मीद है। शुक्रवार के लिए छह जिलों के लिए ऑरेंज अलर्ट जारी किया गया है, जबकि 20 जिलों के लिए येलो अलर्ट जारी किया गया है।
