First Woman Leads IIT Campus After 28 Years

Preeti Aghalayam has become the first woman to lead an IIT campus. In 1995, she graduated from IIT Madras with a BTech in Chemical Engineering. In 2023, she was appointed Director in Charge of IIT Madras Zanzibar, the institute's first international campus in Tanzania. Aghalayam's journey from student to leading an international campus marks a significant milestone for women in STEM and IIT's global expansion efforts. She previously earned a PhD in the US and taught at IIT Bombay before returning to IIT Madras.
