Shimla Residents Allege Tunnel Construction Misalignment, Demand Probe

Shimla residents are alleging that the Chalonthi-Bhattakufar twin tunnel construction on the Kaithlighat-Dhalli stretch is not aligned with the original survey. Cracks have appeared in nearby buildings, rendering over 40 people homeless in January. The Twin Tunnel Affected Sangharsh Samiti has called for a comprehensive geotechnical and safety assessment, citing the area's geological sensitivity. Residents fear more houses could be affected and are demanding an independent technical assessment of the project's alignment and methodology. NHAI officials stated work is halted pending a geotechnical study by IIT Roorkee.

शिमला के लोग आरोप लगा रहे हैं कि कैथलघाट-ढल्ली स्ट्रेच पर बन रही चालोंथी-भट्टकूफर जुड़वां सुरंग का निर्माण मूल सर्वे से मेल नहीं खा रहा है। पास की इमारतों में दरारें आ गई हैं, जिससे जनवरी में 40 से ज़्यादा लोग बेघर हो गए हैं। ट्विन टनल अफेक्टेड संघर्ष समिति ने इलाके की भूवैज्ञानिक संवेदनशीलता का हवाला देते हुए एक विस्तृत भू-तकनीकी और सुरक्षा मूल्यांकन की मांग की है। लोगों को डर है कि और भी घर प्रभावित हो सकते हैं और वे परियोजना के अलाइनमेंट और तरीके का स्वतंत्र तकनीकी मूल्यांकन कराने की मांग कर रहे हैं। NHAI के अधिकारियों ने कहा कि IIT रुड़की द्वारा भू-तकनीकी अध्ययन लंबित रहने तक काम रोका गया है।
