Kerala Higher Education Minister Roji M John stated that while democratic dissent is a fundamental right, aggressive protests that disrupt academic events are unacceptable. He made these remarks after his speech at Maharaja's College convocation was cut short by SFI activists protesting the suspension of 16 students from Sree Sankaracharya University. The minister emphasized that such disruptions undermine milestone achievements for students and families and harm the institution's reputation. He asserted that while students can express views non-violently, disrupting official ceremonies is not a legitimate form of protest.
