एनसीईआरटी की नई कक्षा IX की सामाजिक विज्ञान की किताब, "Understanding Society: India and Beyond," मध्यकालीन भारत में प्रतिरोध आंदोलनों पर केंद्रित है, जिसमें 1178 में मुहम्मद गोरी पर रानी नायकी देवी की जीत भी शामिल है। राष्ट्रीय पाठ्यचर्या की रूपरेखा 2023 के अनुसार, पाठ्यक्रम में बदलाव भारतीय परंपराओं को समकालीन शासन, कराधान, बीमा और उद्यमिता से जोड़ता है। "Resistance and Resilience (1000–1700 CE)" जैसे अध्यायों में महाराणा प्रताप और लचित बोरफुकान जैसे शख्सियतों का विवरण है। पाठ्यपुस्तक अंतरधार्मिक सहयोग को भी स्वीकार करती है और महात्मा गांधी जैसे शख्सियतों से प्रेरित शासन के सबक पर चर्चा करती है।
