NHAI Seeks Modification of SC Order on Strays

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has requested the Supreme Court to modify its order directing the removal of stray animals from highways. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that the responsibility lies with local authorities, not NHAI. He stated that compliance would cost approximately ₹7,000 crore. The apex court had previously ordered the relocation of stray animals to shelters, citing frequent accidents.

नेशनल हाईवे अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया (NHAI) ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट से सड़कों से आवारा पशुओं को हटाने के अपने आदेश में बदलाव की गुहार लगाई है। सॉलिसिटर जनरल तुषार मेहता ने कहा कि यह ज़िम्मेदारी स्थानीय निकायों की है, NHAI की नहीं। उन्होंने बताया कि इस काम में करीब ₹7,000 करोड़ का खर्च आएगा। कोर्ट ने पहले दुर्घटनाओं को देखते हुए इन जानवरों को शेल्टर में भेजने का आदेश दिया था।
