India's IT industry body Nasscom stated that the number of employees moving from H-1B visas to permanent residency via the PERM process is limited. This statement follows the US administration's suspension of major Indian IT companies, including Infosys, Tata, Wipro, and HCL, from the PERM program. Nasscom emphasized that while this affects a specific immigration pathway, the H-1B visa program is for short-term skill gaps. The body also highlighted that Indian tech firms have reduced H-1B dependence and increased local hiring in the US.
