The Marathi film 'Gondhal', based on a centuries-old ritual, has been selected as India's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards. The selection was made unanimously by a Film Federation of India jury from 33 submissions. Gondhal is a folk art form from Maharashtra, traditionally performed by hereditary performers called Gondhalis to honour family deities.
