पूर्व छात्र कार्यकर्ता उमर खालिद और शरजील इमाम ने 2020 के दिल्ली दंगों से जुड़े मामलों में जमानत के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट का दरवाजा खटखटाया है। उन्होंने UAPA अपराधों में जमानत को लेकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट के विरोधाभासी आदेशों का हवाला दिया, जो मुकदमे में देरी और लंबी कैद के कारण हैं, और जिन्हें एक बड़ी बेंच को भेजा गया है। आरोपियों ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि दो सह-आरोपियों को सुप्रीम कोर्ट से जमानत मिल चुकी है, और कहा कि जब महत्वपूर्ण कानूनी सवाल विचाराधीन हैं तो उन्हें लगातार हिरासत में नहीं रखा जाना चाहिए। उनकी याचिका ट्रायल कोर्ट और दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट द्वारा खारिज किए जाने के बाद आई है।
