A 5.44-magnitude earthquake shook Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region early Thursday morning, according to GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. The tremor occurred at 6:59 am IST with its epicentre at a shallow depth of 10 km. While there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, the Hindu Kush is a highly seismically active area. Earthquakes in this region can be strong due to the tectonic collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates.
