EU Carbon Tax on Steel Invites Disaster, Says India's Piyush Goyal

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated in Berlin that the European Union is inviting disaster by imposing a carbon tax on its steel products. He argued that the EU is hindering its own development by introducing more regulations and restrictions, which historically helped it become a developed region. Goyal warned that this policy will increase the cost of living and make infrastructure projects more expensive due to higher steel and aluminium prices. He also noted the EU has approximately 75-77 regulations, adding to industry burdens and uncompetitiveness.

केंद्रीय वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने बर्लिन में कहा कि यूरोपियन यूनियन अपने स्टील उत्पादों पर कार्बन टैक्स लगाकर विनाश को न्योता दे रही है। उन्होंने तर्क दिया कि EU अधिक नियम और प्रतिबंध लगाकर अपने ही विकास में बाधा डाल रहा है, जिनसे ऐतिहासिक रूप से यह एक विकसित क्षेत्र बना। गोयल ने चेतावनी दी कि इस नीति से जीवन यापन की लागत बढ़ेगी और स्टील व एल्युमीनियम की ऊंची कीमतों के कारण बुनियादी ढांचा परियोजनाएं महंगी हो जाएंगी। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि EU के पास लगभग 75-77 नियम हैं, जो उद्योग पर बोझ बढ़ाते हैं और उसे अप्रतिस्पर्धी बनाते हैं।
