Forest Dept Reports Differ on Illegal Mangar Bani Road Construction

Times of India · environment

A paved road through the ecologically sensitive Mangar Bani in the Aravalis has caused a contradiction within the forest department. A divisional forest officer's draft report flagged the construction as unauthorised, noting wildlife and the absence of the road in revenue records. However, a final report to the National Green Tribunal by the principal chief conservator of forests omitted these concerns. The final report stated the department was not the enforcement authority for the road, despite the NGT's directive to prevent illegal construction in the no-construction zone.
