London Residents May Keep Homes After 12-Year Fight Against Demolition

Times of India - India · india

Residents of two London housing estates, Central Hill and Cressingham Gardens, may finally remain in their homes after more than 12 years of uncertainty. Lambeth Council has proposed removing the estates from its demolition and redevelopment program, opting instead to repair and improve existing homes. Council officers found comprehensive redevelopment financially unviable, leading to a recommendation to retain the homes while increasing affordable housing. This shift ends the long-running threat of demolition for the 1960s-era estates, preserving their distinctive postwar design and established communities.
