Supreme Court to Examine Acquittals in Sohrabuddin Shaikh Encounter Case

The Supreme Court will hear an appeal challenging the acquittal of 22 individuals, including 21 police officials, in the 2005 alleged fake-encounter deaths of Sohrabuddin Shaikh, his wife Kausar Bi, and associate Tulsiram Prajapati. A three-judge Bench issued notices on a petition filed by Rubabuddin Shaikh, brother of the deceased. The court expressed interest in scrutinizing why 92 out of 210 witnesses turned hostile during the trial. The apex court also dismissed an application seeking to reopen the case against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was discharged in 2014.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट सोहराबुद्दीन शेख, उनकी पत्नी कौसर बी और साथी तुलसीराम प्रजापति की 2005 की कथित फर्जी मुठभेड़ मौतों के मामले में 21 पुलिस अधिकारियों सहित 22 लोगों को बरी किए जाने को चुनौती देने वाली एक अपील पर सुनवाई करेगा। तीन जजों की बेंच ने मृतक के भाई रुबाब उद्दीन शेख द्वारा दायर याचिका पर नोटिस जारी किए। अदालत ने इस बात की जांच करने में रुचि दिखाई कि मुकदमे के दौरान 210 में से 92 गवाह क्यों मुकर गए। शीर्ष अदालत ने केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह के खिलाफ मामले को फिर से खोलने की मांग करने वाली एक याचिका को भी खारिज कर दिया, जिन्हें 2014 में बरी कर दिया गया था।
