The Kerala government has sanctioned ₹2.46 crore for building permanent houses for families displaced by the August 2019 floods at the Vaniyampuzha tribal settlement. Each of the over two dozen Paniya tribal families will receive ₹6 lakh for construction. The allocation was announced in the State Assembly by the Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes. This development follows years of rehabilitation demands after families lived in makeshift plastic sheds for seven years, lacking basic amenities and facing wildlife threats.
