Elephant Corridor Blocked Again in Chinnakanal; 16 Violators Issued Notices

The traditional elephant corridor connecting Chinnakanal with the Mathikettan forest region has been blocked again, just a week after the forest department cleared unauthorized fences. Authorities have issued notices to 16 individuals, including resort operators, for re-erecting barriers that obstruct elephant movement. This setback hinders efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict, as elephants increasingly stray into settlements. Encroachments and fences have long impeded the animals' traditional routes between forest areas, grasslands, and water sources. The forest department aims to ensure elephants can move freely, mitigating encounters with humans.

चिन्नकनाल को मथिकेट्टन वन क्षेत्र से जोड़ने वाला पारंपरिक हाथी गलियारा, वन विभाग द्वारा अनधिकृत बाड़ हटाने के एक सप्ताह बाद फिर से अवरुद्ध हो गया है। अधिकारियों ने 16 लोगों, जिनमें रिसॉर्ट संचालक भी शामिल हैं, को हाथियों की आवाजाही में बाधा डालने वाली बाधाओं को फिर से खड़ा करने के लिए नोटिस जारी किया है। यह बाधा मानव-वन्यजीव संघर्ष को कम करने के प्रयासों में बाधा डालती है, क्योंकि हाथी तेजी से बस्तियों में घुस रहे हैं। अतिक्रमण और बाड़ लंबे समय से जानवरों के जंगलों, घास के मैदानों और जल स्रोतों के बीच पारंपरिक मार्गों में बाधा डाल रहे हैं।
